Crowds of visitors flocked to PEPPOL booth at BBG exhibition

On 29th March, 2012, PEPPOL presented its solutions for eProcurement at the 5th exhibition of the Austrian Federal Procurement Agency “Nutzen.Leben 2012” in Vienna. The largest fair for public purchase in Austria is organised by the Austrian agency for public procurement, the Bundesbeschaffung GmbH (BBG), once a year. The event primarily addresses representatives of public authorities.

More than 4,200 enterprises from some 70 countries exhibited at the CeBIT 2012 in Hannover from 6th to 10th March 2012. Together with all Large Scale Pilots, PEPPOL presented its solutions for interoperable eProcurement across European borders and showcased its latest success stories at the world’s largest fairy for communication technology.

OpenPEPPOL to guarantee high level governance and long-term sustainability of the PEPPOL infrastructure

As part of a long term sustainability roadmap, the PEPPOL Governing Board recently agreed on establishing OpenPEPPOL as a non-profit international association. The OpenPEPPOL association is expected to ensure high level governance and continuation of the agreement infrastructure and promote wider use of PEPPOL based eProcurement solutions in Europe. The OpenPEPPOL association is drawn up as the user driven path towards PEPPOL sustainability, and are being supplemented by an EU supported path and a standardisation focused path.

As a result of the positive development of PEPPOL and the important role of Italy in the project, the Authority for the Supervision of Public Contracts for works, services and supplies (AVCP) decided to take part in the initiative. AVCP is going to participate in PEPPOL, focusing on the Virtual Company Dossier component, leveraging on standardisation developments for some of its own ongoing projects – mainly those aimed at enabling the exchange of certificates for technical and financial qualification between the economic operators and the contracting authorities, exclusively based on the use of electronic means.

The Starter Kit includes information about the operational, technical and legal aspects of the PEPPOL project. At the event “France connects to PEPPOL” in Paris Bercy on December 12th, 2011, the French government affirmed their commitment to PEPPOL and demonstrated the progress achieved. Ten key French players announced the use of PEPPOL as an innovative solution for cross-border eProcurement. The conference brought together hundreds of stakeholders and PEPPOL participants, including Jean François Junger from the Directorate General for the Information Society of the European Commission, Jacques Mr Barailler, Director of Purchasing Services of the State, and Agnés Arcier, President of Adetef.

The EU funded e-Freight project has selected, after investigating alternatives, the Pan-European Public Procurement Online (PEPPOL) transport infrastructure for electronic information exchange. e-Freight’s initial pilot is between DSV, a global supplier of transport and logistics solutions, and STENA Line, one of the world's largest ferry operators. The initial implementation relates to transport of goods between Gothenburg, Sweden and Germany.
